Major Umar Ibrahim Mairiga, a respected officer in the Nigerian Army, has died in Bama, Borno State.

He was killed when the fighter of Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) attacked a military base near Bama town in Borno State.

He was among those killed during operations in the northeastern Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.

According to multiple reports, Major Mairiga lost his life on Sunday on the Bama-Banki-Gwoza road, a corridor that has seen active military engagements in recent weeks.
