Some Nigeria’s governors, including Governors Dapo Abiodun, Ogun; Ademola Adeleke, Osun; Caleb Mutfwang, Plateau; Sim Fubara, Rivers; Monday Okpebholo, Edo; Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ondo; and Charles Soludo, Anambra; have asked Nigerians to work towards preserving the peace and unity of the Country as a mark of honour to the fallen heroes and heroines who fought for the protection of territorial integrity of Nigeria.
The governors, who marked the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in their various States on Wednesday across the Country by laying wreaths in honour of the fallen heroes and heroines, agreed that Nigeria as a Country need peace, unity and nation building at this critical period of nationhood, saying patriotism and loyalty of the fallen heroes and heroines should not be forgotten in a jiffy.
In Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun, while emphasising the importance of collective efforts to keeping Nigeria in unity and upholding her indivisibility, which he said, is non negotiable, urging Nigerians to collaborate with Government at all levels to maintain the nation’s integrity.
Speaking at the Special Parade and Wreath Laying Ceremony to commemorate the Year 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta, the governor noted that Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a solemn occasion to honour those who sacrificed their lives to protect the country from both external and internal threats as he expressed his firm belief in the potential for Nigeria to thrive once again.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State pledged his Government unwavering support for the Armed Forces in order to ensure they have the necessary resources to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, adding: “Their memories will forever be etched in our hearts, and their sacrifices will never be in vain nor be forgotten.”
Governor Adeleke made the pledge during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Military Cenotaph in Osogbo, saying “For us in Osun State, we will continue to support the armed forces to enable them perform their duties of protecting the territorial integrity of our nation and State.”
For Governor Monday Okpebholo in Edo State, an assurance came from him for families of fallen heroes witj welfare packages meant to cushioning the negative effects of the loss of breadwinners as the governor said “the welfare packages would be geared towards sustaining the immediate families of the fallen heroes to cushion the effect of the loss of their breadwinners.”
Governor Okpebholo stated this on Wednesday at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held in Benin City, adding: “as my administration’s commitment to catering for the families of the fallen heroes, welfare packages will be initiated and sustained for the immediate families to cushion the effect of the loss of their breadwinners.”
In Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori solicited the support of Nigerians towards the welfare of widows, widowers and families of the Country’s fallen heroes and heroines, saying Nigerians should demonstrate enduring commitment to their welfare and upkeep.

Governor Oborevwori, who made the appeal while addressing newsmen shortly after participating in the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Ceremony held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, the State capital, stressed the significance of the event in commemorating the sacrifices of Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State presented a brand new car to Rasaki Salawu, a retired Major and pioneer Director of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC). The car presentation was in recognition of the contribution of the retired Military officer to the traffic management sector in the State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
The presentation formed part of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration which took place at the Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi in Ibadan where the governor told the retired major that “They told me about the difficulty that you have getting around because of the state of your vehicle. We thought that being a retired Major in the Nigerian Army, there cannot be a better time to also honour you than this day we are remembering our fallen heroes.”
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has emphasised the critical role of the Nigerian Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation’s peace and security, while urging citizens to show deep respect for those who have served meritoriously.
Speaking on Wednesday in Jos, during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations, Governor Mutfwang noted that the day provides an opportunity to honor the sacrifices made by military personnel in defence of the nation, saying their efforts had been pivotal in ensuring the sovereignty and unity of the nation.
Prompted by raging insecurity in Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has planned a new security architecture to be launched in the State on January 18th, 2025, saying the security of the State and Country is a collective responsibility of all and should not be left for the security agencies alone, especially at the time the Nigeria Army had joined in internal security operation.
Governor Soludo made the disclosure during the Wreath Laying and Parade Ceremony of 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrationn held at Alex Ekwueme Square Awka on Wednesday, saying: “Many of them (soldiers) who have died in the last two years did not die in the war front fighting against another country, they died in the line of duty coming to keep peace and against the criminals who deliberately in orgsnised fashion killing them.”
Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has vowed to remain vigilant and steadfast to protect the State as it’s highly needed to ensure that Rivers State with sensitive investment installations remain safe.
Governor Fubara spoke at the venue of events climaxing the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at Government House in Port Harcourt.
“We remain vigilant and steadfast in preserving this peace and will continue to provide the necessary support to security formations in the State to ensure they can effectively discharge their duties.
“I call on every citizen to rally around our Armed Forces and work together to strengthen our national unity. We must ensure that every section of our country feels included and valued, fostering a stronger and more cohesive Nigeria”, he said.
