The state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu disclosed this in his new year message in which he also applauded the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) for placing an order from the Aba Shoe factory, which kept the workers busy throughout the festive season.

Ikpeazu also reassured the people of the state that the upgrade of roads would continue to receive attention.

He also stated that his administration has completed the Aro Umuejie road, which links the Enugu-port Harcourt expressway, to the Obikabia- Omoba Road, which has also been completed.

The governor expressed joy at the completion of the Osusu and Egege-ebenma roads in Aba.

Ikpeazu stated that the reconstruction of the Ngwa Road, Uratta, Ohanku and Obohia roads, have commenced under the state’s strategic partnership with the World Bank, stressing that this is the first time in about 30 years that a major attempt is being made at any meaningful work along this area.

“This is more than a road project. It includes floodwater management and waste management. We are committed to the completion of these projects”.

The Governor restates his administration’s commitment to the completion of all the road projects currently embarked across the state and assures that in the next one year, there will be a massive improvement in the stock of roads and other critical infrastructure for the use of the people.

On the welfare of state workers, the Abia state governor assured that his administration shall remain committed to their welfare even more in 2021.

While the salaries of civil servants under the direct employ of the State Government have remained steady, the Governor assured that the systematic offsetting of the salaries of workers in some of the state’s parastatals, which was kicked off in December 2020, would be sustained this year.

He urged heads of these parastatals to ensure that funds made available for this purpose are applied judiciously.

The governor also assured pensioners that the arrears of their pensions will receive the same attention, while the payment of their monthly pensions would be sustained in the new year.
