Abia guber: Group adopts ADC flag bearer as Abia North consensus candidate

A group in Abia under the aegis of Abia North Political Projects has adopted Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha (Bishop) of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, who also is the Abia governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as the consensus candidate of Abia North extraction.

Uduma Nnate, director general/team lead and Nnaukwu Sunday Ogbuji, secretary, Screening Committee, during a press briefing in Umuahia, the state capital, said they arrived at the consensus after all due considerations of capacity, integrity, sound health, manifesto and sound knowledge.

Nnate hinted that Abia Political Projects advocacy was formed few years ago by good-spirited Abia North sons and daughters to be a political mouthpiece of Abia North people whose immediate mandate was to ensure that next governor of Abia State is from Abia North extraction in line with the Abia charter of equity propounded by founding fathers of the state and has been in practice since 1999.

The Director General of Abia North Political Projects said that the group after due consideration set up a screening committee that among other things consider the chances, capacity, credibility, competence, political party and individual contact network of different candidates from Abia and selected one.

He further revealed that membership of the committee were drawn from men and women from the 5 LGAs of Abia North as well as five elders from the zone.

Nnate further said that the following candidates invited the team for the screening in their homes: Ndukwo Anagha, APM; Kalu Ijioma, NRM, and Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha.

Others are; Mascort Uzor Kalu, APP; Gladys Johnson Ogbuneke, SDP, and Greg Ibe, APGA.

“It is important to note that all our governorship candidates in all the parties are qualified and met our selection criteria but we must present only one person. It is also important to note that other groups and establishments are narrowing down and adopting our consensus governorship candidate,” the DG said.

The group called on other candidates who were not chosen as the consensus candidate to rally round the selected candidate to ensure victory.

“We are aware that the ticket/flag you hold belongs to our political party and you will definitely consult our party before stepping down for the consensus candidate for the overall interest of Abia North people and Ndi Abia in general,” the DG said.
