The 8th Abia State House of Assembly has elected Emmanuel Nwagwu Emeruwa as the Speaker.
Emeruwa is a member representing Aba South State Constituency under Labour Party. He was nominated by Emeka Obioma, member representing Umuahia South and was returned unopposed.

The House also elected Austine Meregini, member representing Umuahia East Constituency.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 11 members; Labour Party 10; Youth Progressive Party (YPP) two, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has one member.
