AAU cancels graduating students’ final year exams over wild celebrations

The authorities of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) have announced the cancellation of the final year courses written by students of the Faculty of Arts over wild celebrations.

Ephraim Ikharehon Isiraojie, acting registrar of the University, who disclosed this in a statement dated January 29, 2025 said the action of the graduating students violated the directive of the university management.

Isiraojie said that the affected students were from the Department of Mass Communication, English, History and International Studies.

He also said that the graduating students were involved in car display, use of sirens, spraying of money, shouting and hooting within the campus and also blocked the access roads leading in and out of the university.

“The university management is disturbed that despite the memos prohibiting wild jubilation/celebration on campus, graduating students from the Faculty of Arts (Department of Mass Communication, English and History and International Studies) violated the directive of the university management.

“Graduating students from the affected departments, were involved in car display, use of sirens, spraying of money, shouting and hooting within the campus and also blocked the access roads leading in and out of the university.

“The university management in an emergency meeting, held Wednesday, 29th January, 2025, including but not limited to the following: ELS 411, MAC 414, HIS 416,” he said.

He further said the university management “shall decide in due course when such cancelled examinations shall be rescheduled.

He, however, directed the Dean, Faculty of Arts and all affected Heads of Department to immediately see the Acting Vice-Chancellor.

The bulletin opined that the cancellation of the final year courses examinations for the affected departments in the faculty of Arts would serve as a deterrent to all graduating students who are yet to complete their final year examinations.
