A Nigerian Air Force helicopter crashed and exploded at the NAF Base in Port Harcourt on Friday, the military said.
The helicopter, an MI-35P, was taking off for an operation against oil thieves in Rivers State when it crashed around 7:45 a.m., according to a statement from the Nigerian Air Force.
The statement said all five people on board survived the crash with minor injuries. The crew is being treated at the NAF Medical Center in Port Harcourt.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is on his way to Port Harcourt to assess the situation, the statement said.
The Nigerian Air Force has released a statement saying that the cause of the crash is still under investigation. However, the statement said that the helicopter was taking off for an operation against oil thieves in Rivers State when it crashed.
