Enugu State Government has launched a fresh phase of its social intervention programme under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus, with about 3,000 residents in rural communities set to benefit.

The initiative, being implemented through the State Community and Social Development Agency, is aimed at improving grassroots living standards through targeted support in water supply, sanitation, and small-scale businesses.

The programme aligns with the Administration of Governor Peter Mbah in promoting inclusive development across the state.

Speaking at the launch on behalf of Governor Peter Mbah, Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, described the intervention as a response to the economic challenges facing rural households.

He noted that the government remains committed to easing hardship and expanding economic opportunities at the community level.

Onyia explained that the programme would deliver solar-powered water facilities to improve access to clean water, construct hygienic sanitation systems, and provide both financial and material support to enhance livelihoods.

He added that community participation would play a central role in identifying needs and ensuring effective implementation.

Monday Diamond Ani, the General Manager of CSDA, , revealed that beneficiaries would receive tools to boost their income-generating activities.

These include Point of Sale (POS) machines and vocational equipment for trades such as tailoring, grinding, and hairdressing.

Ani stressed that beneficiary selection would follow a transparent, data-driven process involving community inputs and the state’s social register.

He assured that the exercise would be free from political interference, with monitoring mechanisms in place to track utilisation and impact.

Obiora Obeagu, Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, , expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly improve rural livelihoods and pledged the support of local authorities to ensure smooth implementation.

The programme will be executed in phases, starting with sensitisation and beneficiary selection, followed by the distribution of support items and continuous monitoring to ensure sustainability.
