…FCT minister’s faction backed by FG to further destabilise us – Makinde

…I’m still very much in PDP – Bala Mohammed

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has alleged that the All Progressives Congress-controlled Federal Government, Judiciary and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are seriously backing Nyesom Wike-led faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to further destabilise the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Country.

Recall that Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has been described by some Nigerians and politicians as political mole planted in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to factionalise and destabilise the PDP, plotting to repeat his ‘betrayal’ role he played during Presidential Poll of 2023, in the 2027 General Elections.

Governor Makinde, who was obviously in Bauchi State to confirm rumoured defection of Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum to APC on Sunday, said that the Government of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), the Judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are behind Wike’s faction OF PDP, but the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has masses in the Country behind it and it won’t die.

Speaking at the Ramat Presidential Villa of Bauchi State Government in Bauchi at his “Sallah homage’ to Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum, Governor Makinde said, “I came in a public domain to said that I was in a meeting with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyelson Wike and he promised to hold PDP for Mr President ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Anyone dealing with Wike and his Group, that’s you have also agreed to work for President Tinubu for 2027, we leave it for Nigerians to judge, if it can be in their camp where they promised that they are supporting the President.

“We are not begrudging them, you (Nigerians) can support whoever you like, you can go to them if you want to support them’ so that’s our position.

“We have came to identify with you and the entire people of Bauchi State to encourage because you face challenges and that’s the price of the leadership but like I always said, any time that you see that people are not happy, that may endure for the night, but in the morning joy will surely come.”

Governor Makinde, however, prayed that in the season of celebration like Sallah festivity, “the 30 days of sacrifice of the people, to deny of yourself from eating, drinking and other things, it’s our prayers that the prayers will not be in vain.:

Responding, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State expressed his appreciation to his colleague, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for paying him Sallah homage.

“Is only me and you that we are still in the PDP when we started 13-14 of us”, Governor Mohammed noted, describing Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as “a patriot and someone who believes in the Nigerian project and has always supported me to be able to navigate as member of the PDP Governor’s Forum.”

He added that Governor Makinde had contributed immensely for the development of the party, his State and Nigeria at large.

“I really cherish his determination and his focus. Your solidarity with me in time of challenges, you have said it privately and publicly and I really appreciate that, this is what we have made up, we have always faced challenges and unfortunately for me I always came from the opposition and with humility and modesty, God has always given us victory and we will not take the victory for granted”, he said.

Earlier, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, dismissed rumours of his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was done against reports of governor’s defection to the APC last week.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who spoke with newsmen on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration, declared unwavering loyalty to the PDP despite the party’s internal challenges.

“I have not joined anywhere. We remain where we are. Yes, there are challenges, but they are not insurmountable”, Governor Mohammed said.
