2023: 811 delegates to decide fate of PDP presidential candidates

The other side of the “cabal”

A total of 811 delegates will decide the fate of the 14 presidential aspirants on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the primary election slated for Saturday, in Abuja.

A critical assessment of the distribution of delegates, show that the North West has the highest number with a total of 139 delegates, where the Sokoto State Governor and one of the aspirants, Aminu Tambuwal hails from.

The South West has a total number of 143, the second largest

The zone also has two presidential aspirants, including the former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose and Media mogul Dele Momodu, contesting for the party’s ticket.

The North Central, with former Senate President and former Governor of Kwara state, Bukola Saraki, as the sole contestant from the zone, has a total number of 130 delegates.

The South-South has a total number of 129 delegates. The zone, however has a total of three aspirants, including the only female PDP Presidential aspirant, Olivia Diana Teriela.

Other front line contenders from the zone include Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel

The North East zone with 116 delegates, has three aspirants, including the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed and renown economist, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

The South East zone with four aspirants has a total of 100.

The zone has the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation who also served as one-time Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim.

Other aspirants eyeing the PDP ticket from the South East include renown Pharmacist, Sam Ohuabunwa, Charles Ugwu and Chikwendu Kalu.
As at the time of filing in this report, the PDP headquarters, at Wadata plaza, Abuja was putting finishing touches to preparations for the convention scheduled for Saturday.
