United Cement Company of Nigeria Limited (UniCem) has introduced one 380t/h vertical Roller Mill (VRM) for cement grinding to boost cement production. The VRM is a new development with two 10,000 cement silos, cement dispatch bay bulk loadings (2x300t/h) and packers (6x120t/h, expansion of existing LPFO storage with 10,000m3 additional capacity, expansion of existing captive power plant by additional 45mw net power.
The innovation will be the largest VRM for cement in the world. Olivier Lenoir, managing director of UniCem, disclosed this at Mfamosing during a media tour of second line and evacuation road projecs recently in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
UniCem second line project of 2.5m metric tons new cement is being constructed by Sinoma Group of China at the cost of N84 billion, a state-of-the-art cement line to double existing capacity to 5m metric tons per annum by 2016.
The project, whose final approval was in July 2013, is expected to be delivered in September 2016.
Lenoir said the 9 billion cement evacuation road project was the construction of 20-kilometre asphalted/concrete paved road to link the two federal roads, the Calabar Oban road at the UniCem plant in Mfamosing and the Calabar-Ikom Highway at Odukpani, was conceived by the cement firm to divert traffic.
According to the managing director, the evacuation road project will be supported with infrastructure to cater for the expected traffic increase and reduce the movement of articulated vehicles within the Calabar metropolis when the project is completed.
