To build capacity by equipping companies and other organisations with essential tools and techniques that would lead to significant cost savings and operational efficiency, the Equipment Leasing Association of Nigeria (ELAN) recently held a fleet management conference.

The three-day conference which also provided a platform for business networking was organised with firm determination to build capacity in emerging markets for ELAN members and fleet practitioners. The conference with the theme “The Role of Fleet Management in achieving operational efficiency in Nigeria” was supported by Volvo/ATC Nigeria, and held at Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja recently.

The comprehensive programme which brought together business practitioners whose businesses depend on efficient fleet management, and other stakeholders in the fleet industry explored ways organisations could cut costs in operations of their fleets while still maintaining efficiency. .

Kehinde Lawanson, Chairman, Board of Directors of ELAN, while commenting on the programme noted that “In Nigeria, the essence of fleet management programme such as this cannot be over emphasised given the huge investment by both the public and private sectors in the acquisition of vehicles. Also fleet management represents a major cost centre in public and private organisations, as such, there is need to device innovative ways of managing these costs to improve savings for other developmental purposes”.

The conference had two sessions: Business and Technical sessions. The business session had paper presentations from renowned experts, including Michael Crankshaw, managing director/chief executive, Fleet Cube South Africa, Emeka Ndu, managing director/chief executive C&I Leasing Plc; Adeoye Ojuoko, managing director/chief executive, ATC Nigeria, Charles N. Akpabio, Lagos Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps and Nnamdi Ochonogor, General Manager, Concept Nova – Nigeria. The technical session was led by Michael Crankshaw.
