Deals in Skye, Unity, UBA, other stocks buoy market volume

Transactions recorded in the shares of Skye Bank plc, UBA Capital plc, Unity Bank plc, Wema Bank plc and United Bank for Africa plc contributed majorly to the volume of stocks traded on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday.

At the Customs Street, ahead of public holidays, equity traders in 7,340 deals exchanged 456,722,198 shares valued at N3.580billion.

Details of transactions showed that 74,904,148 shares of Skye Bank plc worth N473,377,689 where exchanged; 34,731,126 shares of UBA Capital plc worth N42,959,430.56 were also traded.

Others are 34,446,323 shares of Unity Bank plc valued N28,298,084.32; 29,371,232 shares of Wema Bank plc worth N49,790,677.33; and 26,122,078 shares of United Bank for Africa plc valued at N208,317,318.75.

The stock market rally which kicked off two days ago continued yesterday. The stock market benchmark performance indicators closed positive evidenced in yesterday’s figures.

At the close of trading, the NSE All Share Index (ASI) rose to 33,536.24 points against the preceding trading day’s 33,468.88 points while the market capitalisation rose from N10.709trillion to N10.733trillion.

On the gainers list, NewGold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) rallied most by N11, from N2, 455 to N2, 466; followed by Nestle Nigeria plc which rose from N940 to N950, after gaining N10.

Total Nigeria plc gained N8.05, from N161 to N169.05; while Okomu Oil Palm plc followed from N70.60 to N72.50, adding N1.90. Also, Lafarge Cement WAPCO rose from N74.29 to N76, adding N1.71.

The losers chart has stocks like Dangote Cement plc leading after it declined from N149.21 to N148.50, losing N0.71; followed by International Breweries plc which dropped from N21.45 to N21.20, after losing N0.25. Also, Nahco dipped from N7.70 to N7.49, shedding N0.21; May & Baker declined from N2.30 to N2.19, losing N0.11; while Africa Prudential Registrars lost N0.08, after its share price dropped from N1.70 to N1.62.
