DCSL, Institute of Chartered Secretaries co-host Corporate Governance seminar

businessday-icon

It is generally agreed that weak Corporate Governance has contributed in no small measure, to the financial crises that the country has witnessed in recent times. It has therefore become pertinent that Corporate decision-makers of today have the requisite knowledge to enhance business profitability, evaluate their Boards for improved performance and attain transparency in corporate leadership.

It is on this premise that the Regulators across various business sectors have implemented corporate governance codes to be followed by those operating within their respective sectors. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Pension Commission (PENCOM) and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) all have well-drafted, Corporate Governance codes suited to the governance requirements of their industry practitioners, while the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is reportedly currently in the process of drafting a Code.

This is evidence that Corporate Governance can no longer be ignored and adherence to its principles makes sound common sense.

Founded upon this background, and with a keen desire to continue to make significant contributions towards entrenching a system of good Corporate Governance practice in line with global standards, Deloitte Corporate Services Limited (DCSL) and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), are organizing a Seminar on “Contemporary Trends in Corporate Governance” on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd March, 2013, at the Southern Sun Hotel Ikoyi, Lagos. This event which promises to be quite enlightening and intellectually stimulating, will explore the current trends in Corporate Governance and their impact on the business environment.

It will also provide invaluable insights into the twin concepts of disclosure and transparency as approached by recent legislation on financial reporting with far-reaching impact on large, medium and small scale companies operating in the public and private sectors of our economy.

Facilitators at this seminar are renowned experts in their various fields. They include Dr. Christopher Kolade CON, Bisi Adeyemi, Bolaji Balogun, Chris Ogbechie, Adedotun Sulaiman MFR and Oduware Uwadiae.
