The Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KADCCIMA) says it has concluded arrangements to stage this year’s edition of its annual international trade fair. According to the chamber, the fair which is the 36th edition was earlier scheduled to hold in February, but was re-scheduled to hold on Friday, April 24 to Sunday, May 3 as a result of the general elections.
Awwalu Makarfi, 1st deputy president, KADCCIMA, made this disclosure while briefing journalists on the preparations put in place by the chamber to ensure a successful hosting of the fair. He revealed that this year’s fair with the theme ‘Promoting Domestic Production for National Sustainable Economic Development’ would be officially declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday, April 25.
“We are indeed grateful to Almighty God that this year’s trade fair will be staged in an atmosphere that is calm due to a peaceful conduct of the general elections. “The theme of the 36th Kaduna International Trade Fair is ‘Promoting Domestic Production for National Sustainable Economic Development.’
The theme was chosen as a way of re-awaking the interest of the organised private sector to its role as the engine of growth of economic development. “While we commended government for involving the OPS in the pursuit of economic programmes, in this year’s fair we have conceived some flagship programmes to arouse the interest of the OPS in the economy.
“One of the specific programmes is a seminar which will be presided over by Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, former deputy governor, CBN, and former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, who will be the chairperson of the event. “The event is planned to hold on Monday, April 27, at the Conference Hall, Kaduna Trade and Investment Centre, and we have inaugurated the KITF Main Organising Committee and nine other sub-committees to ensure success.
“As expected, the fair will be attracting both local and international participants. Contacts with investors, manufacturers, marketers and distributors will be facilitated during the 10 days event. “In the same vein, the chamber is in close contacts with all relevant ministries, departments and agencies at both federal and state levels.
Nigerian missions abroad as well as foreign missions in the country have indicated interest to participate”, he stated.
