The Federal Government has commenced the design of five billion dollar Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline targeted at delivering gas to northern and eastern parts of the country.
This is contained in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) bulletin volume 48.
The bulletin stated that David Ige, the group executive director, gas and power of the NNPC, announced this when he spoke with its correspondent in Abuja.
It stated that the contract for the construction of the estimated 1,200 km flagship project would be awarded soon.
The bulletin stated that the design would soon be completed to pave way for the contract award.
“The contract has not yet been awarded. We are at present working on the project design which should be completed soon before the award of contract,” it stated.
It stated that the state of security in some parts of the nation had never constituted a serious threat to the project.
The bulletin stated that the nation had also made progress in other gas projects, including the ongoing expansion of Escravo-Lagos gas pipeline system, which started in 2011.
It stated that the project was expected to be completed before the end of the year in order to double its capacity. (NAN)
