Tincan Customs records N86bn in January, eyes bumper 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)

The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed that it generated N86 billion in revenue generation as of January 27, 2025.

The figure was disclosed by Frank Onyeka, the Customs area controller, during the 2025 World Customs Day commemoration.

The latest revenue numbers match an upward trajectory, building on the N88.4 billion recorded in the entire month of January 2024, a 107.9 percent increase from N42.5 billion in January 2023.

Onyeka also revealed plans to deploy B’Odogwu, the Customs trade facilitation tool, at his Command, citing its success at the PTML Command.

According to him, trade facilitation remains a cornerstone of the Nigeria Customs Service, and with B’Odogwu–A part of the Nigeria Customs Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), his Command will enhance efficiency by automating key procedures, reducing delays, and enhancing the ease of doing business.

Under its implementation, PTML command achieved its highest-ever monthly revenue with faster cargo clearance, reduced processing time and lower operational costs for importers and exporters due to reduced delays, increased transparency, and higher revenue collection, as automation curbed under-declaration and smuggling attempts.

“The integration of advanced technologies such as blockchain, e-Customs platforms, and artificial intelligence has not only enhanced the speed of cargo clearance but also reinforced our commitment to meeting global best practices as seen in the pilot command PTML,” Onyeka said.

He added that by strengthening partnerships with terminal operators, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and regulatory agencies, the command is fostering a more seamless ecosystem.

These efforts, he said, have contributed to Nigeria’s improved ranking on indices such as the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), the Logistics Performance Index (LPI), and the Ease of Doing Business assessments.
