SON partners Cotecna to implement SONCAP in Nigeria

Cotecna, a global trade testing, inspection and certification (TIC) giant and one of destination inspection service provider in Nigerian ports and border, has been appointed by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to implement the revised Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP).

SONCAP was introduced by the Federal Government to address the concern of unsafe, adulterated and substandard products entering the country.

As part of the SONCAP programme, Cotecna is to carry out the verification of conformity of imported goods and to issue Certificates of Conformity (CoC) in the country of origin.

Robert Massey, chief executive officer of Cotecna, said the company is proud to continue its partnership with the Nigerian government as a service provider, especially with this new contract destined to protect Nigerian consumers from counterfeit or dangerous goods.

In a similar development, Cotecna has won a seven-year contract with the government of the Republic of Burundi. Here, the company will be required to reinforce the operational capacities of the National Security and Customs of Burundi. In addition to training staff, the Swiss company will install scanners to facilitate trade inspection and security in the East African country.
