Dr. Charles Okaga, the General Manager of Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has been seconded to the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. He will serve as a Technical Adviser to the Minister, Adegboyega Oyetola CON. This move follows Okaga’s notable contributions to the NPA, particularly in improving operations at the Lagos Port Complex, also known as Apapa Port.
During his tenure as Port Manager, Okaga played a lead role in resolving the long-standing traffic gridlock on access roads to Lagos ports, a challenge that had plagued the port industry for over a decade.
His efforts not only eased congestion but also enhanced the efficiency of port operations. He also fostered stronger collaboration with stakeholders, including port operators, service providers, and users, which led to significant progress in the sector.
Okaga’s expertise in traffic management and his commitment to promoting ease of doing business earned him recognition from various industry stakeholders, including terminal operators, labour unions, and anti-graft agencies. Over his seven-year stint as Principal Manager of Operations at the NPA, he demonstrated exceptional skills in monitoring, regulatory services, and mediation, particularly in matters related to port concessions and labour.
Industry observers have welcomed his new appointment, describing it as a strategic fit given his extensive experience and contributions to the maritime sector. His role is expected to further drive growth and innovation in Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.
