APM Terminals Apapa, Nigeria’s largest container terminal, has awarded scholarships to 45 undergraduate students from its host community, Apapa, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The beneficiaries were undergraduates from public universities across the country selected from over 150 applicants, including children of five front-line employees of the company.
Steen Knudsen, the terminal manager, said APM Terminals Apapa’s believes in education as a key driver of progress, noting that the initiative aligns with its mission of improving lives and fostering development in the societies it operates.
“Our vision is to grow this number to over 250 students within the next four to five years,” he said.
APM Terminals Apapa’s history of supporting education in its host community holds a long-running history, dating as far back as 2007 when it invested u to N10 million in the renovation and upgrading of Randle Secondary School in Apapa, providing the school with modern facilities.

Ebuwa Ekin-noma Blessing, one of the beneficiaries of the scholarship, described it as a life-changing opportunity. Nansoh Melody, a student of National Open University of Nigeria and Ige Akindenuola, a student of Lagos State University felt similarly, assured that the opportunity would yield great results for themeselves and their communities.
Uzoma Ben-Ude, the head of people function encouraged the beneficiaries to strive for excellence and make the most of the opportunities provided. This comment was also made by Idowu Senbanjo, chairman of Apapa local government, who commended the Terminal for its contributions and urged other companies in the area to emulate the initiative.
“It was clear that each of them was deeply committed to securing this scholarship, and their determination was inspiring,“ said Omolara Olatunbosun, a senior people business partner and scholarship program lead at APM Terminals Apapa, who says the scholarship measured character and drive asides academic achievements.
The port operator has revealed further plans to launch a technical training program for female mechanics in collaboration with the Lady Mechanic Initiative, an NGO that seeks to empower vulnerable girls/women with skills to become certified professionals.
