Apapa: NPA gives 72-hour life span to Eto call-up ticket

Customs agents stranded as workers shut down port gates nationwide

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)

Determined to put an end to Eto call-up ticket racketeering by truckers resulting in delays and traffic gridlock along the port corridor, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has pegged the life span of Eto tickets at three days after exiting the pre-gate.

This means that every truck with an Eto call-up ticket must access the port terminal to lift the cargo on or before the end of the third day of exiting the pre-gate terminal in Lilypond.

According to a notice dated January 2, 2024, and issued, by the Trucks Transit Parks Limited (TTP), technical partners to the NPA that deployed the Eto call-up system, the NPA has directed that on-road validity of tickets from pre-gate to terminal be introduced to trucks accessing the ports.

“This means that although ticket validity runs typically for 21 days, however, all trucks must access the designated terminal within three days (72 hours) of exiting the pre-gate terminal in Lilypond with effect from the 4th of January 2024.

The notice further revealed that all trucks that have currently left pre-gate and are yet to be admitted into the ports now have only three days (72 hours) effective from the date of commencement of the policy to enter the port before their tickets will expire automatically.

“All trucks currently in pregate will have a 3-day (72 hours) validity period after leaving the pregate to enter the port before ticket expiration.

“All new bookings will be subjected to the same validity period of three days (72 hours) between left pre-gate and in terminal going forward.

“No provision for extension of the validity period between left pre-gate and in terminal under any guise is allowed after the expiration of the 3-day (72 hours) threshold,” the notice further disclosed.
