Wale Ojo sails with Tinsel

If have been following, Tinsel, foremost Nigerian soap opera on Afrca Magic, there is yet  another reason to glue your eyes on the TV screen for the show.

Producers of the soap opera have spiced up the show once again with the coming of Wale Ojo, a British-Nigerian award winning actor. The charismatic, charming, well-spoken Ojo who plays as Nosa is gentleman extraordinaire.  He is popularly known for his television series Meet The Adebanjos, the hit TV series which depicts the hilarious lives of a Nigerian family living in London.  The show which has won several awards and is popular in Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana and Great Britain is the third most watched comedy show in South Africa. Wale Ojo is no stranger to DStv audiences and film enthusiasts.

Now on the hit TV soap opera Tinsel, Wale Ojo, an established comedian and a lawyer by training, is known for uttering outrageous truths and taking positions that go against conventional wisdom, but always with a grain of truth in them. Nosa, is a well-travelled, well-educated and well informed but a very street savvy Nigerian with humble roots which makes his materials as a comedian well thought out and informed. Soon coming to the realisation that he wants marriage and children, he embarks on a mission to find a partner but soon realises that as a result of his fame and his many unsuccessful romantic relationships in the past due to his battle with bipolar disorder, Nosa faces difficulties selecting the right partner, but will soon be romantically linked with the most unusual Tinsel character.

Africa Magic audiences will see Wale Ojo bring his craft and talent as a trained actor to DStv viewers come from July 7, 2014 as his onscreen character, Nosa comes to live on Tinsel. Wale Ojo’s career as an actor spans well over 30 years, bringing to Tinsel all the grace and expertise of a TV, stage and film veteran. Starting his acting career as a child prodigy and child star on Nigeria’s first television station in the very early 80s while turning into a professional actor at 21 in the United Kingdom, starring in both TV and stage productions.

Speaking on the new addition to the Tinsel casts, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, regional director, M-Net Africa, says: “Africa Magic is very proud of Wale Ojo’s addition to the fantastic Tinsel line up, which further reiterates our commitment not only to identifying and developing new talents but also working with the best in the TV and film industry and this is as a result of his track record as an established and professional actor. Tinsel fans are in for a wonderful season with some rib-cracking and A-ha moments.”

In 2013 he took home the award for best actor in a film at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards for his serious but charming role as Akin in the film, Phone Swap, a film which consequently travelled across the world to Tokyo, Paris London and Berlin, it is to date one of the most successful films to cross over to an international audience from Nigeria. He was also nominated at the 2013 AMVCAs for his role in the same movie.

Speaking on his new role, Wale Ojo says: “I am very excited and looking forward to the wonderful challenge to be a part of the Tinsel train, hoping that with the commendable gang of casts and crew, we’ll all be able to ride the Tinsel train to higher glory.”

He urges Tinsel fans to tune in to the daily soap opera because Nosa, according to him, is certainly going to bring to the screen many hilarious moments laced with a few truths and plenty of wisdom.

Wale can be seen in Oliver Parker’s Johnny English Reborn with Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), a Doctor in John Mcdonald’s THE GUARD, alongside Oscar winner Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. He has made guest appearances in The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency alongside Jill Scott and played a rebel army commander in NBC’s The Philantropist with James Purefoy. To date, he runs ayearly festival titled ‘New Nigeria Cinema Day’ at the British Film Institute in London and is currently set to produce and direct his first short film titled The Ghost of Tarkwa Bay.
