Trucks Transit Parks Ltd. (TTP) has inspired students of the University of Lagos to consider building careers in the maritime sector.

To actualise this, TTP participated in the official launch of the UNILAG-Employment Clinic: Education to Employment Transition Programme (EETP), themed ‘Blue Career Insights’ at an event that took place at the school and brought together leaders from both academia and maritime industry.

Speaking on the transition from education to employment during a panel session, Jama Onwubuariri, managing director of TTP, said students need to identify their passion, minimise distractions, identify socio-economic problems around them and research their solutions, be team players, stand on the right principles and avoid destructive habits to enable them transit from education-to-employment.

“TTP is committed to fostering an environment where education meets practical application. Our participation in this significant event reflects our dedication to empowering students with the tools and knowledge necessary for success in the modern workforce,” he said.

Onwubuariri further said that TTP believes in the power of innovation and critical thinking to drive sustainable economic development.

“The Ètò system is a prime example of how innovative thinking can address critical challenges and create new opportunities, and we are honoured for the opportunity to share our experiences and insights with the future leaders in attendance,” he said.

He highlighted the success of TTP’s Ètò call-up system, a pioneering technology that has revolutionised logistics and transport management at Apapa and Tin-Can Ports.

Onwubuariri’s insights underscored the critical role of innovation and practical solutions in enhancing graduate employability.

The event featured esteemed guests such as AdeGboyega Oyetola, minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Folasade Ogunsola, vice chancellor of the University of Lagos, Ronke Kosoko, CEO of Maritime Innovation Hub and other heads of industries who shared their perspectives on the importance of collaborative efforts in preparing students for the workforce.

They emphasised the need for a robust partnership between academia and industry.

The UNILAG-Employment Clinic is designed to provide students with the skills and insights needed to navigate the transition from university to employment effectively. The programme’s success highlights the value of industry-academia collaborations in driving positive outcomes for students and the broader economy.
