In the wake of their epic Italian wedding, Wealth-X reveals the combined net worth of Hollywood’s newest power couple, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian
It’s been called the Hollywood wedding of the year. Yes, we’ve all heard about the seven tier wedding cake, the $2-million Givenchy wedding dress, the serenades from John Legend and Andrea Bocelli and the snub from Beyoncé and Jay Z.
Over the last week the whole world has been privy to the social media storm surrounding the wedding of rapper Kanye West and socialite Kim Kardashian, as one of the most instagrammed, tweeted and hashtagged celebrity marriages in history.
But now the day is over and the glitter has faded, what are “Kimye” left with to help them spend a lifetime of happiness together?
The answer, according to Wealth-X, is a whopping combined US$155 million, the lion’s share of which comes from West.
Wealth-X analysis shows that 36 year-old Kanye has a net worth of at least US$110 million, most of which is earned from album sale revenues, income from tours, royalties on his shoes lines with Nike and Louis Vuitton, and fees for public appearances.
He also has two homes worth a combined US$11 million in California and a car collection worth an estimated US$800,000. His stake in his production company, GOOD Music, in partnership with the Def Jam, is worth as much as US$13 million.
As for his new wife, 33-year-old Ms Kardashian is not short of a bob or two herself. Kardashian has a net worth of approximately US$45 million, according to Wealth-X. Most of this she has accrued through her American reality TV show, Keeping Up the With The Kardashians, as well as the US$800,000 stake she holds in her own branded perfume range and the US$1.5 million stake in fashion boutique DASH, which she runs with her sisters Khloe and Kourtney.
She has a car collection to top that of her new husband’s, worth approximately US$1 million. A sizeable chunk of her assets came from selling the publicity rights and photos to her first wedding to basketballer Kris Humphries in 2011, which reports say earned her US$18 million.
So how much of a dent will the opulent Parisian-Florentine wedding make on the Kimye pocketbook? Around US$7 million, or 3.5 percent of their combined net worth, according to Wealth-X. The A-List duo are said to have signed a deal with US TV platform E! Network which broadcasts Keeping Up With The Kardashians, to foot most of the bill for their wedding, which is believed to have cost as much as US$18 million in total. In return E! Network got exclusive rights to air footage of the flamboyant party.
But reports say that the couple are splashing US$7 million themselves on top of E! Network’s contribution, including US$2 million on the dress, US$200,000 on fireworks, US$3 million on security and US$1 million on flowers. The food alone was reported to cost US$2,000 a plate.
With such a lavish celebration, it is no wonder that the couple insisted on getting the lawyers involved (not to mention the fact that his wife’s first wedding only lasted 72 days). According to reports, the unwavering pre-nuptial agreement took weeks to hammer out, especially now the couple have an 11 month old baby, North West. And for the man who made the phrase “we want pre-nup” part of popular culture, it comes with the territory.
