Once again, Terra Kulture Arena has lived up to its billing as the hub for enthralling theatrical performances and entertainment.
The month of July has really been more engaging for lovers of live performances, particularly stage play as ‘The Offer’ has been keeping the stage alive.
Since July 4, 2026, the theatrical masterpiece has been staging and entertaining the audience, amid passing salient messages, and also offering a platform for networking at Terra Kulture Arena, until July 26th when the play will end.
Last weekend, the play was staged at the Terra Kulture Garden, a unique outdoor stage, within the Terra Kulture Arena, that allowed nature to compliment the fun on stage.
The open space setting brought the cast members closer to the audience amid a free flow of fun and especially interaction, which included answering questions from the cast members and frequent cheering from the audience.
Another uniqueness was the two cards; red and green, given to the audience, which they raise when required to support or reject actions of the cast members.
Back on stage, ‘The Offer’ is truly a psychological drama, amid a perfect setting between Lagos and Abuja. It explores love, ambition, power, and the moral cost of survival in today’s Nigeria.
Of course, Tobi and Amara Akinwale, a young middle-class couple, gave the audience more thrills than they asked for. The audience felt the reality and pressure of life for the couple, a story many in the audience said is very relatable.
Like most ambitious young couples, Tobi and Amara had a dream of owning a home, starting a family, and finally escaping the instability of Lagos survival. They also made N22 million commitment, over five years, with an investment fund at realizing their dreams.
It was all rosy and peaceful for the couple, with even the husband singing praise of his wife’s love and sacrifice for their family and future. “My love makes dinner for N1500. Imagine, can your love do the same? Tobi asked the audience, who replied Nooh!
“That is why I love her so much,” Tobi replied to the audience.
Also, Tobi showered the same love on Amara, his wife, depicting a perfect home, which got some of the audience envious. But considering their bad generator, which neighbors complain about, making dinner with N1500 when their N22 million in their savings, many asked if love was enough in marriage as the couple’s suffering and sacrifice were becoming unbearable.
Despite the suffering, Tobi kept dreaming of his billionaire life, which he insisted was going to be very soon.
But the trouble that will test their love was loading. It came when the investment fund suddenly collapsed under suspicious circumstances.
“Do you mean that our dreams are gone,” Amara asked her husband in response to the shocking news.
But her husband kept on hope, assuring her that their investment cannot go down the drain.
The dare situation made the couple become desperate, considering many options and running out of many. As expected, cracks started to emerge in the relationship as it seems impossible to rescue the situation.
As expected, the desperate couple asked for help from all quarters including Kola, who they harbour, but kept being disappointed.
Running out of options, they turned to Chief Adebayo Cole, Tobi’s wealthy employer, a charismatic billionaire whose influence stretches across oil, banking, politics, and the highest levels of Nigerian society.
But Kola, who couldn’t help his friend, laughed at Tobi when he mentioned going to Chief Cole to ask for assistance. “Can the rich ever help the poor? Kola asked the audience, who gave him different answers including ‘it depends’, ‘what kind of help’ and so on.
Emboldened by the saying, ‘there is harm in trial’, Tobi and his wife went to Chief Cole and the inevitable happened.
The chief agreed to help, but on a shocking condition that Amara, Tobi’s wife, must spend one week with him in Abuja as his companion.
The questions were thrown to the audience: Should Tobi accept the offer? Should Amara go or not?
At that point, the biggest test for love emerged as the unthinkable proposition becomes a dangerous negotiation between love and desperation.
Majority of the audience were happy when the couple rejected the offer, but were equally saddened when they later considered it due to the pressure of financial ruin, delayed dreams, and emotional exhaustion.
The Abuja trip happened, but did not go as planned. First, Chief Cole did not seem to take advantage of Amara, but treated her differently, listening to her more. Aamar also was not moved by the wealth, sophistication, and emotional ease she experienced in Abuja, which was far removed from their suffering in Lagos.
For Tobi, the damage has been done the moment Amara left for Abuja, leaving him jealous, insecure, and guilty of pushing his wife into accepting the offer to better their lives.
Amara left Abuja three days into the one week offer without being touched by Chief Cole. But her husband never believed her. Do you expect her to come back the same? The audience asked. Accept her even if she slept with Chief, you made her accept the offer? Some said.
Having received the promised money from Chief Cole, and unable to face his wife, the painful truths begin to surface, one of which is the big crack in their marriage.
Another truth is Chief Cole’s interest in Amara began long before the offer — and that he may have orchestrated the collapse of their finances to force them into desperation.
The chief confessed orchestrating the whole show to test the couple’s love, citing his sad story as an instance. According to Chief Cole, his ex-wife used to love him, despite his poverty, she defended him against landlords, and made dishes from nothing, but left for a richer man when he least expected.
As their marriage unravels under the weight of suspicion and betrayal, Tobi and Amara are forced to confront a devastating question: What happens when the pursuit of a better life costs you the very thing you were trying to protect?
At the end, the audience, who were made the jury, were divided in their verdicts. For some, Tobi used Amara to pursue his selfish goal and may not love her again, others said it was Amara who wanted the offer because of her big dreams. But more red cards were raised for Tobi, while the green cards were in Amara’s favour.
For the green cards, Amara’s decision to leave Tobi was perfect, knowing well that her husband cannot love her like before again, as well as leaving to take her destiny in her hands.
As the cast and crew take their final bow, the audience could not help but appreciate them for their wonderful deliveries on stage and behind the scenes.
From Anatomy Alvin, who played Tobi; Maryann Ivy Amakor who played Amara, to Novo Imonieroh, who played Chief Adebayo Cole, to Akorede Ajayi and Nadiz, the cast lived up to the expectations of the audience.
The Offer, written by Bolanle Austen-Peters and Kanyinsola Kongi and directed by Luwamide Femi-Isedowo, stages at Terra Kulture Arena across the month of July.
It is a tense and emotionally charged stage play about class, marriage, power, and the hidden price of ambition in a contemporary Nigerian society.
