Mazda has been around the automotive for a very long time and not too long ago the third generation 3 made debut in the global market to add to meet the needs of numerous motoring public. However, this third generation featured in this week’s edition belonging to the brand’s family tree is the latest new line-up to be designed in the Kodo design language (after the 6 and CX-5 siblings).

It gains the company’s vaunted SkyActiv technology, sheds onaverage 60kg and utilizes extensive sound-deadening packaging to provide a claimed luxury-vehicle feel in the maintsream C-segment class. Every element that makes driving rewarding takes a leap ahead in this model.

It delivers sophisticated design and sports performance, yet achieves outstanding fuel economy. It also brings a level of connectivity that is unprecedented in a Mazda, and the advanced safety of i-Actvsense.

The Kodo (soul of motion) ethos includes “positioning large wheels in all four corners of the car” as well as adding flared fenders.sleek headlamps, design lines along the profile that gradually rise towards the rear, a shallow glass house and narrow tail lamps.

The movment of the car will leave you wanting more. Light weight unleashes sporting agility, delivered with smooth-riding, sure-steering confidence coupled with petrol engines that are quick to respond, with refined thrust from 2.0 or 2.5 litres. Exceptional economy adds to the thrill. Whether automatic or manual, transmissions shift gears with polished precision. Your progress is always quiet and efficient, thanks to a sleek body that effortlessly cuts through the air.

Reduced friction unlocks extra power, while a 4-2-1 exhaust layout improves efficiency. The 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine produces 114kW of power and 200Nm of torque using as little as 5.7 litres of fuel every 100km*). Inside, Mazda 3 puts the driver right at the centre of the action with all controls within easy reach. By growing the length to 4,465mm, width to 1,795mm and height to 1,450mm, and increasing the wheelbase by 60mm to 2,700mm, Mazda Motor Corporation claims to have created one of the most spacious cabins in the class.

Among the new interior features are an Active Driving Display (ADD) that displays driving details and navigation information on a clear panel mounted behind the instrument cluster,as well as a piano-black centre console to contrast with the brushed metal-look trim.

Mazda’s proactive safety concept, developed to assist driver in avoiding in avoiding dangerous situations,includes innovations like i-Activsense. The technology employs radars and cameras to recognize hazards, automatic high-beam assist, lane departure warning, forward-obstruction warning and smart city brake support that helps prevent or minimize impact with the vehicle ahead while moving at lower speeds.

Three petrol engines, a single diesel powerplant and a petrol-hybrid unit power the new Mazda 3. The first petrol motor, a brand new, 1.5-liter four-cylinder unit, produces 86kW and 150Nm of torque, while the second is a 2.0-liter engine that makes 121Kw and 210Nm of torque.

There is a 2.5-liter petrol range-topper that produces 135kW and 250Nm of torque, and fuel saving technologies includes the i-stop/start system and i-eloop brake energy regeneration system.
