Spiro, one of Africa’s largest electric vehicle (EV) companies, has entered into a new partnership with ZOOMe, an electric mobility firm in Nigeria, to advance electric mobility.
With the partnership, Spiro is expected to use ZOOMe’s extensive network of battery swap stations for seamless battery swaps, minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
“Launching our partnership in Nigeria with ZOOMe is a key milestone in Spiro’s mission to drive the transition to clean energy across Africa. Starting in West Africa and rapidly expanding, we have demonstrated the scalability of our solutions. We’re excited to bring our innovative ecosystem to Nigeria and contribute to building a healthier and greener future,” said Kaushik Burman, CEO of Spiro.
Spiro began in West Africa in 2022, with successful operations in Benin and Togo. Building on this foundation, it expanded rapidly across the continent, deploying 22,000 electric bikes in two years.
The company’s experience and proven success have positioned it as a leader in transitioning to clean and sustainable transportation across Africa.
Recognising the evolving energy infrastructure in Nigeria, Spiro offers a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem to meet riders’ unique needs.
Using its battery swapping stations, riders can exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in seconds at convenient swapping locations, ensuring uninterrupted mobility.
It also has fast charging stations available at select stations for quick recharging options and it’s ideal for riders with time-sensitive needs.
Speaking on the partnership, Adedayo Odunlami, CEO and co-founder of ZOOMe, said the company is excited to partner with Spiro to revolutionise last-mile transportation and logistics in Nigeria.
“Our expert team of technicians ensures top-notch after-sales support, enhancing rider satisfaction and vehicle performance. Together, we’re driving sustainable growth and delivering innovative solutions to meet Nigeria’s mobility needs,” Odunlami explained.
Meanwhile, Spiro provides home charging systems designed to complement Nigeria’s dynamic energy environment, offering reliable and energy-efficient solutions for riders.
This integrated approach ensures riders have dependable, flexible options to keep their bikes operational, maximising productivity while aligning with Nigeria’s progressive energy transition.
Spiro EVs play a significant role in tackling health and environmental challenges, by reducing the impact of air pollution on illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer across Africa, which results in 1.1 million premature deaths annually.
By introducing electric mobility to Nigeria, Spiro and ZOOMe aim to significantly reduce emissions, improve air quality and protect public health.
ZOOMe, founded in 2023, is headquartered in Nigeria and operates a growing network of hybrid battery swap stations. It provides logistics companies and fleet owners with reliable infrastructure to enhance operations.
