Dawood Egbefo, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo University, Iyamho in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State has urged the newly matriculated students of the school to shun all forms of vices that could be inimical to the progress of their academic pursuit.
Egbefo, gave the advice during the 10th matriculation ceremony for 1,528 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
He said the new is intake were admitted through UTME, Direct Entry and Transfer from other institutions.
While congratulating the students for choosing the institution as their choice, he, however, warned that the university has zero tolerance for social vices.
According to him, today we celebrate the matriculation of 1,528 candidates (UTME, Direct entry and Transfer) who have met the criteria for admission and successfully completed the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
“As you join the university as the 10th batch of matriculating students, I encourage you to uphold the University’s regulations and contribute positively to Edo University and the host community.

“I also urged you to approach your academic journey with unwavering dedication and take full advantage of the cutting-edge technological resources and ICT facilities available in the institution.
“We place a high premium on discipline and adherence to the academic calendar, and be noted that the university runs an uninterrupted season”, he said.
The Vice Chancellor, however pledged the management’s commitment in partnership with the Edo State Government to continue to provide world-class teaching and research facilities in the institution.
In her remarks, Omare Celia Otote advised the new students to be disciplined and resilient in their study to achieve their academic goals.
Otote, a professor in the Faculty of Education, Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma,and a Guest lecturer at the matriculation, urged the students to set out goals for themselves throughout their academic journey in order to achieve excellence.
In her lecture titled, “Building a Legacy of Excellence: Embracing Opportunities for Academic Growth”, she advised the students to reflect on what kind of legacy they want to build and that they should immediately commence action on it.
She opined that excellence is about continuous growth, meaningful contributions, and inspiring others, noting that excellence is a journey and not a destination urging them to be focused, ask questions and be self discipline
