Olumo Rock offers unique opportunities for cultural exchanges, learning – Oyegbola-Sodipo

…Visits three U.S. cities to market cultural potential of Abeokuta North LGA

Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, the chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, has reiterated that Olumo Rock Tourist Centre offers unique opportunities for economic and cultural exchanges.

“I am excited to invite international investors and partners to tap into our vast economic, cultural, and tourism potentials. Our rich heritage, exemplified by the iconic Olumo Rock Tourist Centre, offers unique opportunities for cultural exchanges and learning.

“With our strategic location and proactive leadership, we’re poised to drive sustainable growth and development. Let’s collaborate to unlock the full potential of Abeokuta North and create mutually beneficial partnerships,” Oyegbola-Sodipo stated, during his recent tour of Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago.

He recently embarked on city-to-city engagements with three cities in the United States of America, to further demonstrate his approach to fostering real development and good governance at the grassroots.

According to him, the key objective of the visit was to market the economic and cultural potential of the local government to prospective investors, as well as seeking opportunities for cultural exchanges, aimed at engendering accelerated socio-economic growth and prosperity of Abeokuta North LGA and its residents.

Oyegbola-Sodipo commenced the series of engagements with the Office of the Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, during which he met with the economic and development team of the office of the mayor led by Segun Idowu, the chief economic opportunity and inclusion officer.

He underscored the strategic importance of the visit, noting that there was a vast array of partnership and investment opportunities across diverse economic, cultural and tourism sectors within Abeokuta North which partners and prospective investors could take advantage of.

He stated that Abeokuta is the educational capital of Nigeria aside its proximity to Lagos and the fact that Abeokuta North is 70 percent arable land fit for agriculture and can be a net producer of cassava.

“Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State, is a historic ancient city with significant rich cultural heritage. The city also boasts significant milestones as the cradle of Western religion and education, industrialisation and political leadership,” Oyegbola-Sodipo stated.

Segun Idowu, the chief economic opportunity and inclusion officer to the Mayor of Boston, disclosed that Oyegbola-Sodipo was the first Nigerian to visit the office of the Mayor with such a proposition though there have been conversations with representatives of other African cities.

According to him, the meeting explored the possibilities of setting up wider consultations and engagements with the largest black community in Boston, and added that Boston is a preferred city with the largest assembly of black persons and interests because of its uniqueness and strong educational and inventive leanings.
