NUC accredits 31 LAUTECH academic programmes as VC lauds Makinde

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has recorded a 100 percent success in the accreditation of its courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC), as the commission accredited 31 academic programmes presented by the university.

R.O. Rom Kalilu, professor and vice chancellor of the university, gave the indication in a letter addressed to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, who is the Visitor and Proprietor of the institution through the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Deji Omole, a professor.

He commended the governor for his magnanimity and strong support towards the institution, which he noted, ensured the success of the accreditation.

According to the VC, in a letter dated 26th July, 2024, the accredited programmes were presented to the NUC between October and December 2023, with the result released this month.

He added that 13 of the university’s new academic programmes that were granted initial approval in 2022 are also due for NUC accreditation between October and December 2024.

The letter read in part: “The university made one hundred per cent success without any denial to continue to run any of those academic programmes assessed and accredited.

“Quality-wise, twenty-nine (29) or 93.5 per cent of the programmes have full accreditation while two (2) or 6.5 percent have interim accreditation.

“The university is very proud and grateful to you for your magnanimity through diverse support that enabled the outstanding success of the university.”

Meanwhile, in response to the current prevailing economic challenges in Nigeria, the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, through the Oyo state Scholarship Board, has initiated measures to alleviate the financial burden on Oyo state indigene students in public tertiary Institutions.

One of such measures is the Oyo State Indigene Students Bursary Award, which is aimed at providing financial support for the final year students pursuing higher education in Public Nigerian universities, polytechnics and Clinical Schools.

The scholarship board has also released the application portal for eligible students to apply.

Maroof Atilola, chairman, Oyo State Scholarship Board, who made this known in Ibadan explained that all final year students of Oyo State indigene in public universities, polytechnics, Clinical Students, Aviation and Maritime Students are eligible to apply for the Bursary.

Atilola, however, called on interested and eligible students to submit applications from 1st August to 31st August, 2024.
