Miva Open University has received full accreditation from National Universities Commission for 12 academic programmes, marking a major moment for open and distance learning in Nigeria.
The accreditation exercise was conducted between October 15 and November 14, 2025. The result was confirmed in a letter dated April 7, 2026, signed by the Director of Accreditation, Abraham Chundusu. Following the review process, all programmes presented by the university received full accreditation status.
The accredited courses include BNSc Nursing, BSc Public Health, BSc Accounting, BSc Business Management, BSc Economics, BSc Public Policy and Administration, BSc Computer Science, BSc Cybersecurity, BSc Data Science, BSc Software Engineering, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Master of Public Administration (MPA).
During the exercise, accreditation teams from the commission assessed the university’s academic structure, teaching system, course delivery, faculty qualifications, and learning resources. According to the commission, the programmes met the required standards for online and blended learning. The curricula were also found to align with the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards framework introduced by the commission.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Tayo Arulogun, said the accreditation represents more than an institutional achievement. He explained that it reflects increasing acceptance of technology-driven education within Nigeria’s university system.
He thanked the university’s chancellor, Board of Trustees, staff, faculty members, and students for their roles during the accreditation process. According to him, the outcome confirms that degrees earned through online and blended learning can meet national academic standards.
Professor Arulogun said the accreditation would improve confidence among students and employers. He noted that graduates from the university would now have stronger recognition in professional and academic spaces across the country.
He added, “Now, employers will better recognise the quality and industry relevance of Miva programmes, making it easier for graduates to move into skilled roles. In addition, the successful accreditation sends a clear message to regulators and policymakers that open and distance e-learning can provide credible and effective university education when delivered with the right standards and systems in place.”
