Lions club international district 404 is to set up a skill acquisition centre for street children.
It is also embarking on the feeding of children under five during the clubs ‘s annual convention in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital as one of the projects being carried by the humanitarian organisation.
The outgoing District Governor of the Club, Maurice Ibok who made this known during a visit to the newly appointed Director General of the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, Mrs Imaobong Udoh said the skill acquisition would be attached to an institution of higher learning to ensure its maintenance.
‘This is part of our mission to provide nutritional meals to children who need it most, Ibok,” said.
He said the convention would afford the organisation opportunity to engage in other activities including an awareness campaign and membership drive as well as exhibitions for Lions who are engaged in various businesses.
According to him, the incoming District Governor, 404 A2, Ezekiel Umoh who he said has just returned from training in the US.
Would be unveiled during the convention.
‘We will carry out some projects, we have a grant from an international body to carry out feeding for children below five years. That will be done at Ibom hall and at a motherless babies home in the state capital. We have got approval from the University of Calabar for a skill acquisition centre,” he said.
In his remarks, the incoming District Governor, Ezekiel Umoh said the the club would partner with the Akwa Ibom State broadcaster to ensure adequate dissemination of information.
Umoh, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Akwa Ibom State civil service solicited support for the new Director General of the AKBC to enable her succeed describing the media as powerful channels of information dissemination.
Responding, Imaobong Udoh expressed delight for the honour done him by the visit adding that being a member of the Lions Club is a call for duty to humanity.
Udoh who received the Lions club along other management of the broadcast station lauded the club for gender inclusiveness and the various humanitarian.
Udoh, a versatile broadcaster pledged the management’s readiness to work with the Lions Club in its humanitarian activities while contribution to a significant impact of the organisation.
