Leaders Consult International has unveiled the Africa LAMPS Awards, an annual ceremony designed to recognise and honour outstanding Africans across various fields.
This was announced by Shina Philips, president, Africa LAMPS Awards, during a media parley held in Lagos. The initiative aims to spotlight the continent’s rich human capital and inspire future generations.
The awards, encapsulated by the acronym LAMPS—Legends of Arts, Management, Politics, Science, Sports, and Security- celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to Africa’s development. Winners will be recognised in 14 categories, including African Music Personality of the Year, African Movie Personality of the Year, Africa’s Media House of the Year, and African Entrepreneur of the Year.
Philips emphasised the importance of integrity and transparency in award platforms, highlighting Leaders Consult International’s experience organising credible ceremonies such as the Nigeria Pitch Awards. He stated,
“The integrity of any award platform rests primarily on the availability of explicitly stated criteria to guide voters and on the credibility and transparency of the award process. Whenever these requirements are missing, the process becomes compromised, and the integrity of the award process is directly and indirectly impaired.”
With over a decade of experience, Leaders Consult International has established a reputation for credible and transparent awards. The Nigeria Pitch Awards, which recently held its tenth ceremony, has been recognised as Nigeria’s longest-running sports award and one of the few audited awards on the continent.
“In 2011, we organised the first NFF/FIFA Players Agents Workshop in Lagos in partnership with FIFA and the NFF. Since 2019, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force, we have organized the annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers. In April this year, we organized the first-ever Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony in conjunction with the office of the Inspector-General of Police,” Philips added.
The Africa LAMPS Awards will benefit from this extensive experience. Nominees and winners will be decided by a Collegiate of Voters comprising top editors and journalists from all 54 African countries. “It is important that the media, who collectively report the totality of all human endeavours, be at the centre of the award process,” Philips added.
The inaugural ceremony is planned for Nigeria or Rwanda. Philips envisions the Africa LAMPS Awards becoming a global platform that inspires African leaders to invest in research, development, and technology.
“The Africa LAMPS Awards is a brand which can become a major global attraction like other award brands across the world. Africa is due for an award platform which unites the continent in such a manner that African leaders will individually and collectively be inspired to commit more resources and investment to research and development, technology acquisition, agriculture, and the economy.”
