Imo State Government has signed a formal agreement with TEMSConsu, an Australian IT consultancy and software engineering development services provider, to commence drone technology training at the Imo Digital City under the SkillUpImo platform.

This is in line with the State government’s quest to position the state, as a hub for advanced technological education,

The signing ceremony marked the official activation of a programme designed to take young people far beyond the basics of operating unmanned aerial vehicles.

The agreement established a structured curriculum that will immerse participants in high-demand applications, including precision agriculture, security and surveillance operations, geospatial mapping, and aerial cinematography.

Trainees will also receive instruction in drone maintenance, data analysis, and the regulatory frameworks governing unmanned flight in Nigerian airspace. Unlike short-term workshops, this initiative is built, as a sustained ecosystem, where theory meets intensive hands-on practice.

Chimezie Amadi, commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, speaking at the signing ceremony, described the moment, as a turning point for youth empowerment in the state.

He emphasised that the partnership with TEMSConsu was not ceremonial, but operational, with training schedules already mapped out and certification pathways aligned with industry standards.

He noted that Imo youths, would no longer need to travel outside the state to access world-class technology education, as the Imo Digital City is being equipped to deliver exactly that.

With this signed agreement, Imo State moves from planning to action. The drone technology training at the Imo Digital City is no longer a proposal, it is officially underway.
