What started as a simple studio experiment has grown into a full-fledged movement. Nigerian producer Bluenax’s creation, Amacombo, is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most exciting evolutions of Amapiano in recent years.

Bluenax, who has built his career on fusing different genres with Amapiano a style he popularized as “FusioAmapiano” took things further with Amacombo. “I wasn’t trying to replace Amapiano; I wanted to contribute to its growth,” he said. “Innovation is what keeps music alive.

Amacombo is my way of pushing boundaries while still respecting the roots and culture that made Amapiano special in the first place.”
He described the unique sonic identity of the new sound. “Amacombo keeps the soul of Amapiano through its signature log drums but it introduces a completely new atmosphere by blending Latin-inspired guitar melodies, hip-hop style snares and kicks,” Bluenax explained. “The combination of these sounds created something unique that didn’t exist before.”
The producer revealed how the genre gained momentum. “I’ve had a lot of popular songs/beats built around that pattern like Indian Amapiano and Heavenly Amapiano but no one really made it a thing,” he said. “When other producers began recreating the style with even people creating tutorial videos on how to make it and artists specifically requesting for the sound, it became clear that Amacombo had developed its own identity.”

Collaboration has been central to its growth. “Working with talented producers and artists such as DJ Jay Jay, Nathii, Ngobz, Untouchable MasterZA, Sthipla RSA, and many others helped expand the sound in ways I couldn’t have imagined alone,” Bluenax noted. “The Amacombo sound is so big that it doesn’t even identify by me (Bluenax) or any other artist/producer. It is big enough to stand on its own.”

He expressed excitement about its global potential. “What excites me most is that music doesn’t need translation when the feeling is strong enough,” he said. “We’ve already seen listeners from Africa, Europe, North America, and South America connecting with the sound. I believe people around the world will continue embracing it because it feels both international and authentic at the same time.”

Bluenax is currently working on a full Amacombo album titled Amacombo: The New Amapiano, which will feature major contributors to the subgenre. “The album will serve as a way of cementing the relevance of Amacombo,” he revealed.

For young producers hoping to create something new, he offered clear advice. “Don’t focus on copying what already exists. The reason Amacombo was created is because I wasn’t afraid to experiment,” Bluenax said. “Learn the fundamentals, understand different genres, and trust your creativity. The next global sound could be sitting on your laptop right now.”
