Geometric attributes current power outage in Aba to damaged TCN line

FG spends N8.8bn to repair vandalised transmission towers -TCN

The management of Geometric Power Limited, owners of the independent power plant in Osisioma area of Aba, Abia State, has appealed for the patience and understanding of electricity consumers in its ring-fenced area, following a recent power outage caused by damaged transmission line, owned by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The damaged transmission line, according to Geometric Power, impacted its backup power supply to consumers in the Aba ring fence, but noted that it is working closely with relevant stakeholders to restore power supply soon and fortify the power infrastructure in the area.

Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, and environs have been without electricity for about four days, due to damaged transmission line, belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

GPL in a statement obtained by BusinessDay, Friday, restated commitment to providing reliable power to all of its areas of coverage.

This is despite enormous challenges it had encountered, due to persistent gas shortages, acts of vandalism, and the recent widespread power outage, caused by TCN’s damaged line.

GPL, through the statement, said that it understands the frustration and inconvenience that it customers may have experienced, especially with the recent power outages, due to the damaged TCN line, which has impacted the backup power supply to customers.

The energy company however stated that it is making progress with alternative gas suppliers to ensure uninterrupted power generation, as well as investing in enhanced security measures to protect its facilities from vandalism.

The company apologised for any hardship the outages may have caused its customers and assured that their team members are working diligently to resolve these challenges.

It also said that it was monitoring TCN to ensure that they restore power supply, as soon as possible this week.

In the longer term, GPL said that its goal was to conclude backup gas supply alternatives and restore optimal power supply by the end of September 2024.
