…Nigeria will overcome security challenges – Umahi

The Federal Government has flagged off the Gombe–Biu Super Highway, a key component of the Akwanga-Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Dualization Project, which connects five Northern States, namely, Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Borno.

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, at the event expressed confidence that Nigeria’s security challenges would be overcome under President Bola Tinubu’s Administration.

Speaking during the ceremony in Gombe State, Umahi described the project as another demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure development and national integration.

He commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for the transformation of Gombe State and praised his Administration’s developmental strides.

The minister disclosed that the Federal Government expanded the scope of the Gombe–Biu section following requests from the State Government and assured residents that construction activities would commence within 30 days.

According to him, the Gombe–Biu Road forms part of the approximately 700-kilometre Fourth Legacy Project, stretching from Akwanga through Jos, Bauchi, Gombe and Biu to Maiduguri. He noted that the contract was awarded to HITECH Construction Company after a competitive procurement process involving several firms.

Addressing the nation’s security situation, Umahi cautioned against politicising insecurity, insisting that collective efforts were needed to tackle the challenge. He expressed optimism that Tinubu’s Administration would successfully restore peace across the country.

“Security should not be politicised or weaponised. This phase will pass, and the insecurity challenge will be defeated under President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

The minister further stated that the President had already recorded significant achievements in stabilising key sectors of the economy and was equally committed to addressing security concerns nationwide.

Umahi described President Tinubu as a leader determined to deliver projects that had remained unrealised for decades, citing the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Akwanga–Maiduguri Corridor as examples of major infrastructure projects now being implemented.

Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Governor of Gombe State, described the highway as one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the history of Gombe State.

He thanked President Tinubu and the Ministry of Works for initiating the project, noting that it would boost economic activities and complement the state’s livestock and agricultural industrial zone.

The governor assured the Federal Government, contractors and stakeholders of adequate security and support throughout the execution of the project.

Dany Abboud, Managing Director of HITECH Construction Company, pledged that the company would deliver the project according to international standards and create employment opportunities for host communities, particularly young people.
