As the election petition tribunal on the conduct of the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State is ongoing, a group under the aegis of the Obidient, Asue/Ogie movement has appealed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s judiciary system.
Blessing Agho, coordinator of the group, who made the call in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City on Friday, opined that the sustainability of Nigerians depends on the integrity of the judiciary.
Agho, in an open letter to President Tinubu, noted that the president’s statesmanship is one that transcends politics.
She also added that the statesmanship should also help in reaffirming the collective belief in justice, fairness, and the sanctity of the democratic process in Edo State.

According to her, Edo State is at a critical juncture, where the survival of its people depends on the integrity of the judiciary and the commitment to protecting democracy.
“We, the citizens of Edo, are pleading with you to protect the integrity of the ongoing tribunal process and allow justice to prevail.
“Yet, what we have witnessed in the post-election is an affront to the principles of democracy,” she said.
She, however, alleged that since the declaration of Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as the winner of the governorship election, his actions and inactions showed that he lacks the capacity and temperament to lead the state.
She posited that the gubernatorial election that is supposed to be a beacon of hope, has become a source of anguish.
Blessing further alleged that the actions of the state government and its agents have eroded the rule of law and undermined the structures of democracy.
She averred that the appeal to the President became necessary following the concerns about the independence of the nation’s judiciary.
