…Promise world-class show in September
The residents of Victoria Island in Lagos, as well as businesses and visitors are set for an enthralling showcase of colour and glamour on the street this September.
From September 14 – 18, 2026, they will witness, for the first time, the maiden edition of Victoria Island Carnival; a landmark cultural and tourism initiative designed to celebrate the island, which is the heartbeat of Lagos’ economic, lifestyle, entertainment, hospitality, and business hub.
The week-long deep-rooted experience event is being organised by Downtown Promotions, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State on the theme: “Eko’s Jewel: A Legacy Rich in Colour”, and will celebrate Victoria Island’s unique place as the heartbeat of Lagos’ economic, lifestyle, hospitality, and entertainment ecosystem, while creating a platform to preserve culture, promote tourism, and stimulate economic growth.
It will bring together music, fashion, arts, food, tourism, business, and communities from across Nigeria and beyond, in a vibrant display of African creative and urban culture.
The carnival features an exciting event lineup, which will kick-off with the vibrant carnival village at Muri Okunola Park from September 14 – 18, 2026, featuring live entertainment, food experiences, fashion showcases, cultural displays, lifestyle activations, networking events, creators’ hub, family experiences, and immersive brand activations.
The highly anticipated Victoria Island Carnival Street Party will be held on September 19th along Adeyemo Alakija Street, bringing together music, dance, DJs, nightlife culture, street performances and high- energy entertainment in one of Lagos’ most iconic urban districts.
The grand finale of the carnival will take place on September 20th with a city-wide parade experience, moving through key Victoria Island routes and culminating at the main stage inside Muri Okunola Park.
VIP viewing experiences and hospitality sections will also be hosted along Adeyemo Alakija Street, creating a premium front-row carnival experience for invited guests, sponsors, media and dignitaries.
The parade routes will cut across major Victoria Island corridors including: Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Ahmadu Bello Way, Adeola Odeku, Akin Adesola, Adeyemo Alakija Street and Muri Okunola Park axis.
The carnival is also expected to feature dazzling themed carnival bands and floats, international-standard costume displays, cultural dance groups, live DJs and soundtracks, celebrity hosts and influencers, fashion and lifestyle showcase, food and tourism experiences, creator and youth culture activations, live media broadcasts and digital livestream experiences.
At an unveiling press conference, held at Eko Hotel and Suites on June 5, 2026 in Lagos, Abiodun Ayorinde, chief executive officer, Downtown Promotions, explained that the carnival is designed “to celebrate people, culture, creativity, enterprise, vibrant spirit, and shape the tourism sector of Lagos.”
Ayorinde said that Downtown Promotions, which is the official convener of the carnival, has the power to bring together people, drive tourism, create lasting experiences and opportunities. “Through this carnival, we are building more than an event. We are building a legacy that will give Lagos a stand,” he said.
The CEO promised an exciting carnival experience for residents, businesses and visitors in Victoria Island, which he said has been the face of the new Lagos over the years.
Ayorinde noted that the carnival would be an opportunity for economic exploration and support for local businesses.
Downtown Promotions, according to him, will deliver on the carnival as it has delivered impactful cultural and entertainment experiences across Lagos, including: Most Beautiful Girl in Lagos, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria Summit, and Badagry to the World Concert.
Speaking at the event, Adebopo Oyekan, permanent secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, said that the state government aligns with the ideals of the organisers of the initiative and would collaborate to make the event historic.
“We welcomed the initiative when it was brought to our notice. We are proud to be part of it,” Oyekan said, while calling for a replication of the carnival across the five regions of the state. The permanent secretary said further that the carnival would promote the culture and traditions of Lagos, as it will show the world the culture and what the state stands for.
On his part, Ayo Omotosho, CEO, Travelogue, the official media partner of the carnival, highlighted the significance of the event, noting that the aim was to promote and showcase the rich cultural heritage of Lagos.
