Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation (CIPLCF) is strengthening its contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through targeted community development initiatives aimed at improving access to essential services and promoting sustainable living.

The Foundation’s recent donation of a solar-powered borehole to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja underscores its commitment to advancing sustainable development and creating lasting social impact across Nigeria.

The project, which was recently commissioned, is designed to provide reliable access to clean water while leveraging renewable energy through solar technology. Beyond addressing a critical water need, the initiative aligns with the United Nations SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), reinforcing the Foundation’s focus on environmental sustainability and public well-being.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Cordelia Ekeocha, head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Cornerstone Insurance Plc, who represented the managing director/CEO Stephen Alangbo, said the Foundation remains committed to implementing initiatives that deliver long-term value to beneficiaries.

According to her, the borehole project reflects the Foundation’s broader mission of protecting lives and promoting healthier communities through sustainable interventions.

“We believe that all our initiatives should have a lasting impact in the lives of the recipients,” Ekeocha said.

She explained that the Foundation’s interventions are anchored on key pillars, including community support, education, health and safety, with the solar-powered borehole representing a practical demonstration of these objectives.

The project is expected to improve access to potable water for staff and visitors at the NDLEA facility, while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources, thereby contributing to environmental conservation efforts.

Receiving the project on behalf of the Buba Marwa, a retired brigadier general, Ambrose Umoru, the agency’s director of Technical Services, DCG, commended Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation for the gesture.

He noted that the facility would provide a dependable source of clean water for the agency and enhance the welfare of personnel.

The donation highlights the growing role of corporate foundations in supporting national development priorities and complementing government efforts in achieving the SDGs. As Nigeria continues to pursue inclusive and sustainable growth, private sector-led initiatives such as those of Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation are emerging as important drivers of social development.
