Class, poise with Jake Ties

It is a known fact that the image of who we are is often tied to perception, so “let’s complement that look with the right tie,” offers Jake Ties.

Sharply dressed and cool looking Itunu Oloyede, the brain behind Jake Ties, sells ties in a non-conventional and classy way, and stocks them in various styles, colours and designs. “Our ties are all about class, poise and elegance,” he says, describing his product and designs.

The business, which just took off recently is already making waves online-its market place- in fact twitter is abuzz with the lovely fresh designs. It came on board at the right time, with Valentine’s Day round the corner, for those who really need help with what to get for their loved one.

The ties are made from 100 per cent silk and cotton, though for now the ties are imported but Itunu’s main dream is to produce everything here in Nigeria. That will be a welcome development, especially with the numerous push for made -in-Nigeria goods. “This takes time though.”

Being an online based business that is enjoying lots of patronage, the most challenging part right now is responding to orders. “It has been crazy but hopefully, our website, which is our marketplace, will be up soon”.

So how did he venture into this line of business? “I am passionate about fashion. It is about creating my own brand,” he says.

But where and how did Itunu learn about the trade, if one may ask.  “I learnt it indirectly from my Mum; she has been an astute businesswoman since I was young and I have always looked for the time I would start my business.”

The response has been overwhelmingly massive since he started, in fact, “I am still shocked till now. I get an average of five offers on a daily basis since the launch date. I get offers from all over the country. It has been amazing”.

“We have various types of products for sale; like ties with pocket-squares, cufflinks, amongst others. The major product we sell now is ties”.

Itunu Oloyede who is closer to 25 years is a business and financial analyst. A graduate of Computer Science and Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, he presently works in one of the best financial institutions in Africa.
