Junior Achievement Nigeria has partnered with Citibank Nigeria to enhance financial education for young individuals by teaching financial literacy to secondary school students.

JA Nigeria also created a financial literacy curriculum that motivated secondary school students to gain financial confidence in line with Citibank’s Global Community Day.

The Global Community Day is an annual tradition of coming together through volunteerism to build lasting connections with each other and host communities.

It offers a range of service opportunities to work alongside communities and non-profit partners to help improve cities and neighbourhoods.

Volunteerism enables the bank and its community partners like Junior Achievement Nigeria to deliver on a shared mission that drives economic growth at the local level.

During the event, Citi volunteers, alumni, family, and friends come together to work on different projects such as mentorship, training, and literacy education among others.

They taught the students vital skills in saving, investing, donating, and earning, paving the way for a more secure financial future.

It serves as a moment to celebrate the positive impact Citi has in the communities it serves. This year, volunteers in Nigeria leveraged their time, skills, and talent to impact the lives of over 1800 beneficiaries across Nigeria.

Ireti Samuel-Ogbu, chief executive officer of Citibank Nigeria Limited while present at one of the financial literacy sessions in secondary school in Lagos, said the partnership with JA Nigeria amplifies the banks’ community impact and demonstrates its commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.

Samuel-Ogbu said Citi is proud to promote initiatives that allow the bank to make a tangible difference to the communities it serves.

Samuel-Ogbu said that for over two decades, the Citi Foundation has worked with Junior Achievement in Nigeria and share a commitment to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

Olaolu Akogun, acting executive director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, lauded Citi’s commitment to enhancing the financial prospects of youths in Nigeria.

He said by working together, both organisations are contributing to a sustainable improvement in the economic stability of Nigeria.

Global Community Day activities also amplify Citi’s continued efforts in supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and this year focused on SDG four which is quality education and SDG eight which promotes decent work and economic growth.
