BusinessDay journalists, Daniel Obi, media business editor and Alexander Chiejina, health correspondent, won the Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report and Best Report on Nutrition awards, respectively, at the maiden edition of Promasidor Quill Journalists Awards weekend.
This feat made BusinessDay newspaper the only media organisation to win two awards out of the five different categories: Brand Advocate of the Year, Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report of the Year, Most Educative Report of the Year, Best Report on Nutrition and the Best Photo Story of the Year.
Speaking at the event, Keith Richards, CEO, Promasidor, said that the Promasidor Quill Awards is a platform in Nigeria to reward journalists for dedicated news reportage.
According to Richards, “The awards are aimed at challenging journalists on how they can continue doing their jobs more professionally and exhibit excellence. The winners will be given the opportunity to add to their knowledge and skills set.
“The company appointed five distinguished professionals in their various fields of endeavour as judges to select winners for the different categories of the awards. The judges were carefully chosen because of the regard the company attached to the awards”, he said.
Besides the plaque and laptop gift to the winners in the first four categories and a high-end camera to the winner of the Best Photo Story category, winners of all five categories will be sponsored at Pan African University, Lagos Business School, for training.
Members of the panel that scrutinised the entries included Dele Cole, former ambassador to Brazil and veteran journalist; Emevwo Biakolo, dean of School of Media and Communication, Pan African University; Jide Ologun, chairman, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos chapter; Kadaria Ahmed, former editor, 234 Next, and Kelechi Obi Amadi, a renowned international painter and photographer.
The Promasider Quill Awards was launched at the Promasidor Media Brand Academy in March 2012.
