Baobab+ Nigeria has launched new retail stores in Ile-Ife, Mowe, Ore, Ondo Town, and Ikare Akoko to expand access to clean energy in underserved communities. The initiative aims to provide solar energy solutions to households and businesses in off-grid areas, reducing reliance on costly and unreliable electricity sources.
Kolawole Osinowo, CEO of Baobab+ Nigeria, said: “Access to energy is a fundamental right. By opening new stores in these off-grid areas, we are not just selling solar products—we are delivering hope, security, and opportunity. With reliable electricity, children can study longer, businesses can thrive, and communities can grow. Our goal is to continue driving impact, reducing energy poverty, and fostering economic development across Nigeria.”
Nigeria has over 90 million people without access to electricity. Baobab+ Nigeria addresses this gap through standalone solar home systems, productive-use appliances, and clean cooking technology. Its Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) financing model enables families to adopt solar energy without high upfront costs, making it more accessible to low-income households.
Baobab+ has supported over 200,000 beneficiaries and 40,000 households with solar solutions. In rural schools, students can now study at night with solar-powered lighting. Small business owners, including traders and food vendors, have extended their working hours, increasing their income with solar refrigerators and reliable electricity. Healthcare facilities that struggle with power shortages have gained consistent electricity for essential medical services.
The new stores offer solar home systems, cooling solutions for food preservation and healthcare, and clean cookstoves to reduce indoor air pollution. Baobab+ plans further expansion to Lokoja, Okene, Anyigba, Gwagwalada, Iseyin, and Benin in the coming months.
