The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has flagged-off the distribution of ICT gadgets to seven thousand (7,000) beneficiaries under the UN-CARES in the state.
Speaking during the distribution of the items held at the banquet hall of the Bauchi State Government House, the governor said that equipping people with essential digital tools would foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and job creation across Bauchi State.
He highlighted some of the devices distributed during the ceremony as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and PoS machines, adding that the devices would play a vital role in bridging the digital divide and creating new economic opportunities for the people.
He said that poverty was not just an economic challenge but a broader social and health issue that demands a multifaceted approach.
The governor further said that he remained steadfast in his administration’s commitment to economic empowerment and poverty reduction through digital innovation and ICT development.

He emphasized the critical role of technology in improving livelihoods and creating economic opportunities. Adding that digital empowerment is a key driver of sustainable development, enabling youth and small business owners to actively participate in the digital economy.
The governor also said that his administration remains dedicated to inclusive governance and policies that enhance the well-being of the good people of Bauchi State.
On his part, Atiku Musa, who is the National Coordinator of NG-CARES, lauded the initiative as a crucial step toward digital inclusion.
He noted that providing citizens with ICT tools and skills aligns with the programme’s mission to empower communities in today’s technology-driven world.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Shafiu Muhammad, expressed his appreciation to the state governor, the state’s Ministry of SMEs, and the World Bank for their support.
He promised to make good use of the gadgets effectively to enhance his digital skills and economic prospects.
