Samuel Nzotta, a professor and vice chancellor, Amadeus University, Amizi, Ikwuano, Abia State, has called on the federal government to review the mode of TETFUND operation in the country.

Nzotta noted that the move would enable the intervention body to provide research grants to scholars in private universities.

He made the call at Amizi, Ikwuano during a press briefing with select journalists to highlight the activities lined up for the formal opening of the institution and the maiden matriculation ceremony.

The vice chancellor said that if TETFUND provides research grants to private universities scholars, it would enhance staff development and ensure holistic research activities in the country and economic development.

Nzotta disclosed that from the onset Amadeus University has prioritized research as an important pillar of its academic activities.

“As a result, the university has instituted holistic research activities generally as a framework for scholarship.

“The founder/proprietor of Amadeus University has provided an initial research fund of N10 million to kick start research activities in the university, “the VC said.

He noted further that the institution has accelerated the processes of establishing some collaborations with various universities in the country and internationally.

“As part of our effort at actualizing the collaborations, the university has commenced the process of establishing linkages, which offer exchange programmes for staff and students for global competitiveness.

“The university has commenced the process of signing a Memorandum of Understanding with some professional bodies to ensure that the curriculum of these courses meet professional standards,” he said.

Nzotta disclosed that at the maiden matriculation ceremony, forty students would be admitted into the various approved university programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.

He said that the National Universities Commission licensed Amadeus University in 2023 and in 2024, 19 programmes under four faculties were approved after the team had visited the university in April, 2024.

According to him, after evaluating the human and material resources available for the programmes, the NUC conveyed approval subsequently on April 23, 2024.

“The university successfully commenced lectures on October 28, 2024 with the first set of students. Since then, academic activities have progressed unhindered,” Nzotta explained.
