The Plateau North Unity Forum has thrown its weight behind Danladi Atu ahead of the 2027 senatorial race, citing the need for unity-driven and impactful representation for the Northern senatorial zone in the National Assembly.
Atu, a professor, served as Secretary to the Plateau State Government during the tenure of Simon Lalong when he was the governor of Plateau State.
Timothy Kim, who read the position on behalf of the group at a press conference in Jos explained that the decision followed a critical assessment of past representation in the senatorial district.
“We have carefully examined the trajectory of representation in Plateau North and observed that the zone has been grossly underrepresented, resulting in limited progress and underdevelopment,” the forum said.
“This situation is largely due to divisions along ethnic, religious and cultural lines, which have weakened our collective strength and hindered meaningful development across the zone,” they added.
The Forum noted that its formation was necessitated by the urgent need to bridge existing divides and foster unity across the six local government areas in Plateau North, stressing that only inclusive leadership can drive sustainable development.
It described Atu as a seasoned academic, grassroots politician and experienced administrator with a strong background in peacebuilding, community development and public service, adding that his track record reflects capacity to deliver purposeful representation.
The group also commended Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for promoting unity in the state and acknowledged the efforts of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in fostering national cohesion, while urging stakeholders to support Atu’s bid for the overall progress of Plateau North.
