Boluwatife Balogun, the first son of Nigerian music star Wizkid, has launched his music career with his debut EP titled Champion’s Arrival. The young artist, who performs under the name Champz, releases the project through his independent label, Champz Music.

The five-track EP features Afrobeats production with Champz delivering rap verses in a British accent, reflecting his upbringing in the United Kingdom. Tracks focus on personal storytelling, covering his experiences with friends, school life, support from his mother, and criticism over being labeled a “nepo baby.”

Champz pays tribute to music legends on the project as a way to establish his identity. Notably, he does not directly mention his father, Wizkid, in any of the five songs.

The EP marks an early entry into the music industry for Champz, who keeps lyrics simple and focused. He addresses his journey without deviating from core themes, presenting himself as a young artist carving his own path.

This release positions Champz as part of a rare father-son duo in Afrobeats, the first since the Kuti family legacy. Fela Kuti, the Afrobeat pioneer, saw his sons Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti, along with grandson Made Kuti, continue in music.

Fans and industry observers note the potential for Champz to develop his skills over time. Many express interest in his growth within the Nigerian music scene and the possibility of future collaborations with Wizkid.

Champion’s Arrival is now available on streaming platforms. Champz enters the Afrobeats space at a young age, following a path similar to his father’s early start. The project highlights personal narrative over reliance on family fame.

The Nigerian music industry continues to evolve with new generational talents. Champz’s debut adds to discussions about legacy, independence, and emerging artists in Afrobeats.
