Actress and movie producer, Carolyna Hutchings, has given reasons she apologized to her fellow reality show star, Laura Ikeji, in the ongoing Real Housewives of Lagos show.
In the Season One of the show, the women were enmeshed in a dirty fight, calling each other unprintable names and making not just a few feel they would be sworn enemies for life.
It came as a surprise that in the second episode of the ongoing Season Three, Carolyna was seen apologizing to Laura over the fight they had in Season One.
In a recent chat with Bliss, while giving reasons for her apology, Carolyna said she was brought up to acknowledge accountability.
“When I watched Season Two, one of the things that drew me to Laura was when she was abused whilst she was pregnant. No matter how much I dislike a woman’s character, when I see something bad being done to that woman, I push aside every issue I have with her and I show her support. What was done to her in Season Two was uncalled for regardless of how she treated me in Season one.
“When I decided to come back for Season Three, I said my major concern was to take accountability for what I had said to her. She can apologise to me when she likes. I don’t move at the same pace with everyone. The fact that I am apologizing now doesn’t mean I am expecting an immediate apology from Laura. I apologized because of how I was raised, my faith in Christ, my belief and the fact that I support women a lot and I believe that women tend to be successful if they are unified. I decided that the first day I see Laura, I must settle with her and take accountability of what I said to her regardless of the situation.
“If I am wrong, I must acknowledge it, correct it and learn from my mistakes. Sometimes, if I am right, I can just remove myself from the picture completely and not indulge.”
Carolyna also said it was the same ideology of hers that made her apologize to Toyin (Tiannah) Lawanni, who she also had an altercation with.
“In Season One, Tiannah had called me aside and told me a tumor was found in her head and she told me not to tell anybody. I held on to that information praying in my heart that it wouldn’t result to anything negative or deadly. She still has young kids around. My major focus was that this is a woman going through a lot health wise. Regardless of our difference, I would just stand by her. Unfortunately, the season ended very badly.
“When I saw her in the hospital going through so much, I just told myself that this world is so small. What if something bad happens? Where will I see her again to settle our differences? So I thank God for grace. God gave me the grace to settle my differences with her. Since we had our differences in public, we might as well settle in public. That was why I reached out to her. I had to settle with her and show her my love and support.”
Regarding why she wasn’t a part of the Season Two of the reality show, Carolyna said it was by choice.
“I didn’t come back for Season Two. It was by choice. The first time was more like a formation time when you get to meet the other ladies. You just try to find your bearing. For me, I just felt overwhelmed. There’s a lot of misconception. It was as if I kept defending myself and my family. I felt the narrative was all about me trying to get out words about my ex husband and my marriage, which I felt shouldn’t be anybody’s business unless I want to divulge that information.
“There were lots of disloyalties. I am such a trusting and kind person. I can be so naive when it comes to friendship because I feel the sky is big enough for every woman to succeed.
“I decided to take a step back because I felt I was a black sheep. All false accusations were pointed at me. My grandmother once told me that if everybody feels you are a problem, leave the stage, the main problem will come out if you know you are innocent. And that was exactly what happened. I decided to take a step back in Season 2 because I believe, when I am no longer in the picture, every single thing will come out the way it is meant to be. That was what happened. When I saw the truth had come out, I decided to give it another chance. I am not perfect, by the way. But I will not go out of my way to bring another woman down, intentionally.”
