Ruger departs Jonzing world, launches label

Ruger has announced his departure from the record label, Jonzing World.

Using his social media platforms, the Afrobeats singer also declared that he is set to establish his record label, Blown Boy.

“Thank you, Jonzing World, and D’prince for believing in me and taking me this far. I wouldn’t have gotten here without you. It is sad that I have to leave but God knows best. I am taking a big bet on myself this year. I don’t know it all, but I know God will see me through. It is time for ‘BlownboyEnt’.”

Ruger joins the lineup of new artists that sprung up between 2018 and 2019 who have left their parent music labels to either sign for international labels or create their own.

One of these artists includes Joeboy, who on Friday announced that he was leaving to sign with Warner Music, an international music label, with the expiration of his contract with Mr Eazi’s Empawa. He also launched his label, Young Legend, aimed at churning out the next set of Afrobeats stars.

Other artists from that set who have recently joined or have their labels affiliated with international majors include Rema who is linked to Universal Music through Mavins, BlaqBonez who signed with Warner Music through Chocolate City, and Fireboy DML who joined EMPIRE through a joint venture deal with Olamide’s YBNL.
